Krishna is the embodiment of love and divine joy, that destroys all pain and sin. His stories are unsurpassable and a source of joy and inspiration for people from all walks of life. A child, a brother, a cowherd, a messenger, the beloved of many gopis, Krishna enthralled everyone with His various delightful and charming avatars.
Krishna Leela is a celebration of His epic saga and we invite you all to take part in this joyous and colourful celebration. Let us, together, embrace the magic woven by the mighty flute.
Consolidated report of SARGAM 2018 State Level Inter-Collegiate Cultural Fest Theme – ‘Krishna Leela-Magic of the Flute’
New Horizon Educational Institutions hosted a state level inter-collegiate fest - “SARGAM 2018” on 28th and 29th of September 2018, which has now become a very popular annual cultural event, providing a platform for young and creative minds, to bring out their hidden talents in the true spirit of healthy competition. This year’s very special and unique theme was ‘Krishna Leela-Magic of the Flute’.
Sargam-2018 - ‘Krishna Leela-Magic of the Flute’ was inaugurated by Shri. Vasudeva Keshavadasa, Vice President of ISKCON, Bengaluru on the 28th of September 2018 at 10.30 am. In his address to the audience, he enlightened the eclectic gathering on the cultural values which Lord Krishna symbolized and bequeathed to the world and which have become the trade mark of the affectionate mischievous ‘Makkanchor’.
Dr. Mohan Manghnani, Chairman of New Horizon Educational Institutions declared that the fest is open to all the students and faculty members to avail of this golden opportunity to explore the essence of life.
The theme ‘Krishna Leela- Magic of the flute’, for Sargam 2018 like previous years challenged and entertained students with a host of competitive events. A total number of 18 competitions ranging from one star to five stars, like Painting, Mime, Singing (group), Freeze IT (photography), Short Movie making, Switch Foot, DJ wars, Street dance, Shark Tank, Battle of Bands, Contemporary Dance (group) Street Play (group), Computer Gaming, Story writing, Turn Coat, Spot Light and the Mega event Krishnavatar were organized on the New Horizon College of Engineering Campus.
On entering the campus in the early hours of the morning on 28th September, one was transported to the Brindavan Gardens like it might have been five millennia ago. The green grassy lawns of the campus were bedecked with all the signs and symbols related to the naughty loveable Bala Krishna. The entire ambience was so authentic and opulent that everyone felt a deep connection and feeling of oneness with the aura of Gopinandana. An array of food stalls doling out sumptuous, delicious and lip smacking snacks, offered a blend of gastronomic delights to all the young lovers of food. The prettily lit up food stalls had a tough time catering to the needs of each and every foodie.
The highlights of this mega fest were of course the spectacular events which offered a feast to the varied participants’ and spectators’ senses and sensibilities.
This mega event was undoubtedly an extraordinary event performed by eleven groups/ colleges. It was a joyful and colorful event depicting with various stories of Krishna, from birth to Vishwarupa. All the Leelas were supported with background music and dance. The judge Ms. Mayuri Dixit a famous contemporary dancer, had a tough time in selecting the best teams from the rest, for awarding the prize amount of one lakh rupees. There were around 10,000+ spectators for this event.
The first prize winner was New Horizon College, Marathahalli which won a cash prize of Rs.75.000FREEZE-IT: It was a golden opportunity given to the budding ace photographers to capture the appropriate pictures by planning behind the lens. Thirteen colleges participated in the show and all the participants of the FREEZE-IT (Photography) did a marvelous job. The winners were decided by the judge Mr. Prabhjeet Singh and Mr. Bhaskar Burman.
The winner of the event was Mr. Ajay Issac from Christ University Bannerghatta campus.SWITCH FOOT: For all lovers of varied dance forms this event was a huge visual treat as nimble footed dancers vied with each other for the first 3 places in this competition. Foot tapping music of different genres was part of the event that happened in the Auditorium. About 26 participants from different colleges participated in the first round. 10 were shortlisted for the finals and with great difficulty, the judges Mr. Santosh, expert professional dancer & Mrs. Sreeranjini Umesh, director of Ragini Sangeetha natyalaya arrived at the final decision.
The winners was Mr.Vishnu from St. Joseph’s Degree CollegeOn 28/09/2018 at 11.30 am- there was a painting competition conducted at library reading hall. This was an individual event and lot of unique talent was showcased. A total number of 53 colleges participated. The external judge for the event was Ms. Jayshree, a freelance artist and the internal judge was a teacher from NHPS.
The winner was Ms. Priyanka Prasad from Royal Concorde PU College.Shark Tank- at 11.30 am on 28/09/2018 was conducted in the Chanakya seminar hall. Students came up with different innovations for startups. They had to pitch their best business ideas to a panel of judges, persuade them to have belief in their project. A total number of 12 colleges had participated. The judges were Mr. Ritwik from Wipro and Ms. Shilpa from Phicus Social solutions.
The winner for the junior category was Mr. Akshat Bhatia from Christ PU CollegeEvent: Spotlight- on 29/09/2018 at 9.00 a.m. at the Chanakya seminar hall
The stage was set for the students to showcase their personal unique talent. It was conducted
in the Chanakya seminar hall. A total number of 18 colleges had participated. They had to
entertain the crowd with their melodious and exquisite voice, their sublime play of instruments,
or a hidden talent that sets them apart from the crowd. There were quite a few participants for
‘Beat box’. The judges for the junior category event were Mr. Marvin who is a professional
singer and Mr. Reuben Stalin who’s a beat boxer himself and mimicry artists too.
Event: Battle of the Bands- on 29/09/2018 at 9.00 am at the main stage
It was a western music performance with singing along with heavy metal music which was a treat to watch and hear. It was conducted at the Main stage. A total number of 13 colleges performed. The judges were Mr. Akash Menon who is a guitar instructor at the Nanthaniel School of music and Mr. Vincent Angelo who is a music teacher, a cartoonist, and head vocalist of his Band Midrange.
On 28th September 2018 at 11.30 am, we had Filmy Group Dance competition at the Main stage with fabulous efforts by participants of both Junior & Senior put together by 25 colleges. It was with great difficulty that the two judges announced the winners as it was a neck to neck competition. Participants chose theme based songs with story speaking through their expressions and their energy levels reaching the sky.. The comperes had done a stupendous job by adding on the spot rapping and encouraging the crowd & participants. Judges were RJ Jisha & Actress Ms. Vaishnavi Chandra.
And the winners for junior category were New Horizon PU College KasturinagarCOMPUTER GAMING
The computer gaming competition which was held in the computer lab on 28th September
2018, had participants from 52 colleges competing in: CS: GO, DOTA2 and FIFA10. All the
computer wizard groups were vying for the first 3 positions in the finals
On the 28th of September, 20 colleges both with senior & junior category participants enthralled the spectators with their Street Play at the Indoor stadium. Each group had more than 10 participants with high energy and interest towards the act they were performing. The time given to each play was 14 minutes. The Judges were Mr. Thomas George & Mr. Sudarshan who were theatre artists. Most of the acts were addressing social concerns and women empowerment.
The first prize winner for the junior category was St. Claret PU CollegeOn 28/09/2018, the event conducted was MIME at the Auditorium: The event which was held in the Auditorium post lunch had large audience comprising of teaching staff and participant colleges. Each act had awestruck & spellbound viewers & they were all asking for more. Performers put their best foot forward and synchronized their well nuanced body movements to the tune & rhythm of the background music. Their well painted & masked faces failed to hide their feelings be it joy, sorrow, happiness anger, jealously or envy. Social & National issues were enacted like dowry, caste system, rape, poverty, substance & alcohol usage etc.
15 colleges’ participated and total numbers of performers were 120. Well known theatre artist Mr. Pritesh Bhandari, prolific film maker and drama artist Mr. Harisha Chetan were the judges who had the unenviable task of selecting the winners.
The first prize winners was The New Horizon College of EngineeringStory writing competition was conducted on 29th September at The Subhash Chandra Bose block: Sargam 2018 definitely had multiple intelligence theory in mind when they planed the different events. While dancers, musicians, singers, actors and budding film makers had more than their share of opportunity to display and showcase their talents, budding writers and authors were not deprived of a golden opportunity. This is because there was a story writing competition for those with a storytelling streak in them. Here is how it worked, the story writing competition was held in one of the classrooms in Subhash Chandra Bose block. The topic for them was “Krishnaleela from your perspective”. The students were given an hour’s duration to organize, assimilate their thoughts and ideas and express them in writing. The judges were our own NHG English faculty, Ms. Nirmala Verma & Ms. Preetha Kumar.
The first prize winner was Ms. L. Shyla New Horizon PU College (Kasturinagar)The event Short Movie Making was conducted on 29th September 2018 at the library Video conference room: A total of 5 colleges participated with 6 minutes video each written, shot, directed, edited & acted by the students. The participants had brought in very nice insightful themes involving the emotional behavior at the work place and organizations. Mr. Pritesh Bhandari & Ms. Wrishie Narayan the judges for this event and were very impressed and commended the sincere efforts put in by the participants. NHCE students were specially praised for perfectly dubbing the entire film flawlessly.
The first prize winner was Alliance UniversityContemporary Dance competitions were conducted on 29th September at the Auditorium: A Total 15 colleges participated with junior and senior categories. The performances were graceful and impeccable. They used a variety of props and had come up with breath taking moves. The costumes picked up by the participants were vibrant and helped them to score high.
The first prize winner in the junior category was Jain College – VV PuramOn 28th September the event Turn Coat competition was conducted at the Falconry Seminar Hall: This is an extempore event where participants have to switch for and against the topic as and when judges rang the bell. The total of 4 minutes time was given for this and Dr. Soumya Narayanan & Ms. Madhura were the judges. The event had 6 Degree Colleges, 19 Junior colleges & 6 PG students.The participants were tested on basis of presence of mind, their hold on current affairs and communication skills.
The first prize winner in the junior category was Ms. Pooja Mariam from New Horizon PU College KasturinagarOn 29th September, Street Dance event was conducted at the main stage: A Total of 16 colleges participated; Judges Zuboo & Velu are professional dancers cum Choreographers. The participants were judged on the expression of attitude, song selection & stunts which we usually see in the street dances. Costumes were also judged along with the performances. It was a feast to their eyes for viewers watching the enthralling performances.
The First prize winner for the junior category was Jyoti Nivas PU College.Singing (group) On the 29th of September, it was the turn of the singing competition participants at the auditorium, to render words in songs. Twenty Seven colleges participated in the event. The songs were so beautifully rendered by the participants that the audience was spell bound with their singing and voices. Undoubtedly, they posed the toughest challenge to the judge Ms. Vinoda G. A., when it came to deciding who the winners of the group singing were.
The first prize winner was the CMR Institute of TechnologyDJ Wars: Total of 17 colleges participated; the Judges Mr. Ajay & Mr. Natorious had a tough time testing the enthusiastic participants who had scored good points showing their technical capabilities and crowd pulling music. The participants were also judged on their stage performance skills. Each participant was supposed to perform for a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes.
The first prize winner in the junior category was the Royal Concorde PU College
Overall trophy was bagged by New Horizon College of Engineering, Marathalli.
The best performing college was Christ College, Bannerghatta road.
Juke box was a wonderful opportunity for all the students from various colleges to explore a multitude of creative practices from dance to fashion and much more, each and every student enjoyed this event.
To bring down the curtains of this extravagant event of 2018, there was a DJ night and live music concert by Mr. Zaeden and the Kakkar sisters-Ms. Prakriti and Ms. Sukriti from 6.30 pm onwards on 29th September 2018, which drew a crowd of 15000+ spectators from the IT field, alumni of New Horizon Educational Institutions and students from many other colleges in Karnataka.
Finally all the excitement, the thrills, the high spirited energy and enthusiasm that had marked a month long planning and preparation period leading to the annual mega event of Sargam 2018 was neatly wrapped up on the evening of the 29 th September 2018. This superbly crafted and brilliantly executed show turned out to be a “Mother of all Bangalore’s College Events”. This unparalleled and incomparable show was entirely by the students, for the students and of the students.
Every event had a maximum number of colleges and collegians participating. An overall 200+ colleges participated in the different competitions during this extravagant event. We witnessed a footfall of around 20000+ participants during the two days, from morning till late in the evening. The eagerly awaited announcements of winners of the events were greeted by loud cheering and clapping and thundering rounds of applause from the students and audience. But the leading team who stole the thunder at SARGAM 2018 was none other than our very own:
